WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House passed Congressman Pete Sessions' (TX-17) legislation, the GSA Technology Accountability Act (H.R. 7524) by unanimous consent. The bill, aimed at implementing oversight and transparency mechanisms into the General Services Administration's management of taxpayer-funded technology projects, received bipartisan support.

Congressman Sessions introduced H.R. 7524 in response to concerning reports from the GSA Inspector General regarding the failed implementation of Login.gov, a government-created single-sign-on identity verification platform. The GSA's misrepresentation of the platform's capabilities left government systems vulnerable, potentially costing taxpayers billions in fraudulent payments.

Speaking about the bill, Congressman Sessions emphasized the importance of accountability and effective use of taxpayer dollars. He stated, "This legislation will safeguard against the misuse of government resources and improve the operational transparency of GSA projects." Sessions also expressed gratitude for the bipartisan support, saying, "I am grateful for the support from both sides of the aisle for recognizing the need for this important legislation."

The GSA Technology Accountability Act will now require the GSA Administrator to submit an annual report to Congress detailing the allocation and usage of funds from the Citizen Services Fund and the Acquisition Services Fund, ensuring that projects deliver true value to the U.S. Government and its citizens.

In conclusion, Congressman Sessions highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts, stating, "The passage of H.R. 7524 is a testament to what we can achieve when we work together to improve government operations."
