Number of teachers pledging to teach Critical Race Theory in Bellmead stagnates at 27 in week ending Oct. 23

Hs 02

There were no new teachers in Bellmead who signed the pledge in week ending Oct. 23, according to an online pledge from the Zinn Education Project.

No new teachers sign the pledge the week before. It now has 27 pledges from Bellmead teachers by the end of the week ending Oct. 23.

They’re one of the thousands of US teachers pledging to continue educating students about the controversial Critical Race Theory, which explains racism is embedded in US culture and politics.

Though the concept was first suggested in the late 70’s, it has recently exploded as a contentious issue between the American right and left in the last two years.

Many who signed the pledge are defying state bans on the teachings. Arizona, Idaho, Iowa, New Hampshire, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas have passed legislation banning discussions about the US being inherently racist.

Other states, such as Montana and South Dakota, have denounced the teachings without passing specific legislation.

In an interview with The Washington Free Beacon, Ashley Varner of the Freedom Foundation accused the Zinn Education Project of providing “left-leaning propaganda to teachers.”

Hinda Joy LauryTRUTH has always needed to be taught. Ignorance is disastrous. If the majority acknowledges the truth, many more will come forward to demand change to this white supremacist oligarchy we fight for survival in. We should stand tall together. I want them to be able to become the best possible young adult and adult that they can be with all the knowledge that is available to them. Our children deserve to know about our country's history and black history. Black history is not just one month, it needs taught all year. Being aware of all struggles that American people have gone through will enable our country to grow and eliminate racism.
Eric WrightsonOklahoma passed, and Govermor Stitt signed, HB1775, a poorly written and contradictory law that undermines how we teach history. I refuse to lie to my students, most of whom are African American.
