BELTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Superintendent Message to Big Red Community

Community

Belton Independent School District issued the following announcement.

Thanksgiving break is mere hours away for the Big Red Community. In front of this week long break, the Belton ISD superintendent is asking families to stay vigilant against COVID-19.

Our families and staff have done a phenomenal job of partnering with us on mitigation strategies so far and we are thankful for your continued support.

While the  Centers for Disease Control  and  Bell County Public Health District  both implore that staying home is best, they offer these suggestions if you do travel during the holidays:

  • Check travel restrictions before you go.
  • Get a flu shot before traveling.
  • Always wear a mask in public settings.
  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.
  • Avoid touching your mask, eyes, nose and mouth.
  • Bring extra masks and hand sanitizer with you.
Over the next week, Belton ISD will continue reporting positive cases to the Bell County Public Health District and supporting daily contact tracing. Updates to the district's  COVID-19 dashboard  and email notifications of positive cases, however, will pause Saturday, November 21, through Thursday, November 26. Notices and dashboard updates will resume Friday, November 30.

Transcript of Video Message in Spanish:

Good afternoon, Big Red Community. I'm Matt Smith, the Superintendent of Schools here at Belton ISD.

We wanted to get in touch with you very briefly before Thanksgiving break.

First of all I wanted to thank you. Thank you to our entire community for helping to keep our students, our staff, and our schools safe. Thanks to your collective efforts, we were able to successfully open schools this year and do great things for our students.

The second thing is about this Thanksgiving holiday, be sure to unwind, rejuvenate and relax. We need everyone to do their best because after this Thanksgiving break we will be ready to do great learning with our students.

I also wanted to talk about maybe there will be rumors because we are still in the middle of a pandemic. We know there will be many questions and I can promise you that if something changes regarding our approach to teaching and learning in Belton ISD. We will communicate directly with our families from the official district communication.

As always, be sure to stay safe. Let's wash our hands, let's wear our mask, let's do our best to maintain a six foot distance because a collective effort will ensure that we can continue to provide great learning for our students throughout the year.

Thanks again. Thank you to our Big Red Community. See you after the holidays.
