CITY OF MESQUITE TEXAS: Mesquite announces holiday event schedule and encourages local shopping

City of Mesquite Texas issued the following announcement.

With the holiday season approaching, the City of Mesquite has announced a calendar of free activities to celebrate this festive time of year and is encouraging attendees to shop and dine at local businesses in the community while attending the events.

Sat., Nov. 28, from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Small Business Saturday, Downtown Mesquite

Downtown Mesquite will feature 11 Downtown Mesquite businesses that will be participating in the national Small Business Saturday program with special discounts and prize drawings for shoppers. Visit www.DowntownMesquiteTX.com for details on this holiday shopping experience.

Tue., Dec. 1, 6 - 8 p.m., Christmas on the Square, Downtown Mesquite

Downtown Mesquite will host this free, drive-through event featuring photos of attendees in their vehicle near the community Christmas tree, an appearance by Santa Claus, candy cane greeters and 300 complimentary holiday gift bags which will include the popular Downtown Christmas Tree ornament. Sat., Dec. 5 and Sunday, Dec. 6, 5 – 7 p.m., Christmas in the Park, Westlake Park

The Mesquite Parks and Recreation’s free Christmas in the Park event at Westlake Park, 601 Gross Road, will be a drive-through event for the first time in its 34-year history. It will feature all the traditional favorites, including lighted park displays, Santa Claus, costumed characters, themed areas and more. Sat., Dec. 5, 4 p.m., Mesquite Community Band Holiday Concert, Mesquite Arts Center

The Mesquite Community Band will perform their annual Christmas concert. The free event will be held at the Mesquite Arts Center, 1527 N. Galloway Avenue. Doors open at 3:30 p.m., and public health guidelines will be implemented. Visit www.MesquiteArtsCenter.org for concert details and information on additional free holiday activities.

As a part of its #ShopMesquite campaign, the City is encouraging residents to shop and dine in the community while attending these holiday events to help support the local economy and businesses. The new www.ShopMesquiteTX.com listing of businesses located in Mesquite features stories, videos and more on places to shop, eat and experience Mesquite. The City also reminds its residents to be smart and safe as they venture out to stores, restaurants and destinations in Mesquite by wearing face coverings, using social distancing and following public health guidelines.
