Belton Independent School District issued the following announcement.
Student athletes attended the first-ever summer workouts at Lake Belton High School this week.
The new campus, slated to open Aug. 19 for the start of the school year, is Belton ISD’s second comprehensive high school. Finishing touches are being made to the facility, so earlier summer workouts have been held at North Belton Middle School.
On Monday, about 250 athletes were greeted by Blaze, the school’s mascot, as they entered the athletic complex.
“It was awesome,” said Brian Cope, head football coach and campus coordinator. “It was fun to see a lot of smiles on our kids’ faces.”
The students, seventh and eighth graders from middle schools that feed into LBHS and freshmen and sophomores who will attend the new high school, brought an energy and excitement that will stick in Cope’s memories of the historic day.
“Every day we are making this place a special place,” Cope said. “I’m very thankful for the kids, parents, coaches and trainers for all their hard work to get ELITE camp started off the right way.”
