In Washington, DC, Congressman Pete Sessions has expressed his concern regarding the exclusion of economic aid for farmers and ranchers in the upcoming government funding Continuing Resolution. The resolution is anticipated to be presented on the House floor this week.
Sessions emphasized the reliance of farmers and ranchers on Congressional support before the year ends. He remarked, "Farmers and ranchers rely on Congress to provide necessary economic support before the new year. Now, with the end of this Congress approaching, we are failing the agricultural community."
The Congressman highlighted the significance of rural areas and agricultural work to the nation’s economy. He stated, "We cannot allow our rural areas to disappear; the work of our farmers is the backbone of our nation." Sessions warned that thousands of farm families who have tended American soil for generations face insolvency risks.
Representing Texas's 17th Congressional District, one of the nation's largest agricultural districts, Sessions affirmed his commitment to supporting these communities. He declared his intent to oppose any Continuing Resolution lacking provisions for economic assistance to farm and ranch families: "I will not abandon them... I plan on voting NO to any Continuing Resolution that does not include economic support for our farm and ranch families."
Sessions has been a member of relevant organizations supporting agriculture for many years. He mentioned his affiliations as a 28-year member of the Texas Farm Bureau and a lifetime member of the Texas Forestry Association.
