There were six American Indian students enrolled in Axtell ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, the same number as the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Axtell ISD schools welcomed 836 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.7% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Axtell ISD roughly covers schools within McLennan County and has a main office in Axtell.

Among the five schools in Axtell ISD schools, Axtell High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of three students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
