There were 23 American Indian students enrolled in Waco ISD schools in the 2022-23 school year, 64.3% more than the previous year, according to the Texas Education Agency.

Data showed that Waco ISD schools welcomed 13,824 students during the 2022-23 school year. Among them, American Indian students comprised 0.2% of the student body to be one of the least represented ethnicities in the district.

Waco ISD roughly covers schools within McLennan County and has a main office in Waco.

Among the 25 schools in Waco ISD schools, University High School recorded the highest enrollment of American Indian students in the 2022-23 school year, with a total of five students.

The Texas education system is currently torn between public schools and taxpayer-funded private schools.

Critics argue that private schools use funds that should go to the public school system, while private school advocates claim they’re offering better education for more Texas students.
