Lakes Waco and Whitney were among the more than two dozen Texas priorities that'll receive funding as part of the Water Resources Development Act of 2020.
Lake Whitney officials will use the funding awarded to accelerate finishing its reallocation study which examines how its water supply storage is distributed. Lake Waco's embankment that is wearing away will be restored and fixed with help from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
In total, 20 projects in Texas that Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) supported were included in the federal funding bill. It was recently passed the U.S. Senate.
"Texans will be safer from future storms with the authorization of these projects," Cornyn said on his Senate website. "From studying flood risk to fortifying levees to improving ship channels, all Texans stand to benefit from the high priority infrastructure projects included in this bill."
The goal of the Water Resources Development Act is to help fund studies and projects across the nation aimed at improving water resources and their infrastructure.
