BELTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Belton ISD Officials, Community Leaders Celebrate Dedication of Area's Newest High School

Antonio

Belton Independent School District issued the following announcement.

Belton ISD administrators and board members - past and present - came together Wednesday to celebrate a collective dream coming to fruition by dedicating Lake Belton High School.

“Opening a building like this from scratch takes a lot of blood, sweat and tears,” said Superintendent Matt Smith of the district’s second comprehensive high school that opened to ninth- and 10th-grade students earlier this month. “The dream was born years ago, and many of the people here were instrumental in nurturing the dream all the way to reality. Our students and community are now enjoying the benefits and will for years to come.”

Community leaders and project partners joined administrators and board members on stairs in the school’s Commons behind red ribbon. Students gathered nearby counted down and on zero, the group cut the ribbon, making the dedication official.

LBHS was funded through the May 2017 Bond Program voters approved. Throughout the development of Belton ISD’s long-range facilities plan, the district actively sought to involve the community and held events to seek input.

“The community told us they were ready for a second high school,” McDonald said. “They could see the district’s increasing enrollment numbers, that more and more families were seeking out Belton ISD for their children. It’s thrilling to see what we dreamed of together with the community has become a real thing.”

LBHS theatre students gave a spoken word performance based on the words “pride,” “community” and “trust.” These are words Jill Ross has been working to instill in future Broncos since becoming the campus principal in August 2019.

“We’ve been working to build the foundation for a strong campus culture,” Ross said. “It’s exciting to lay the groundwork for the traditions and values Lake Belton High School students will celebrate for generations to come. We’re building a legacy, and we want it to be worthy of what the community has entrusted to us - their students.”
