Congressman Pete Sessions of Texas has expressed approval following the enactment of his bill, H.R. 7524, known as the GSA Technology Accountability Act. This legislation aims to ensure that the General Services Administration (GSA) is accountable to Congress and taxpayers regarding its expenditure on technology projects.

Sessions stated, “I am proud that my common-sense legislation, the GSA Technology Accountability Act has been signed into law. As Chairman of the Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce, I found that there is insufficient transparency in the General Services Administration regarding technology projects. This legislation will allow the House Oversight Committee to conduct appropriate oversight, rein in what for too long has been an unaccountable organization that seemingly thought it could play by its own rules, and protect both GSA agency customers and American taxpayers. The GSA Technology Accountability Act is big win for government accountability!”

The new law mandates that the GSA Administrator provide an annual report to Congress detailing each project funded by both the Citizen Services Fund and certain initiatives supported by the Acquisition Services Fund. Previously, there was a lack of transparency concerning how these funds were allocated, which are essential for TTS projects and initiatives. The bill seeks to enhance oversight capabilities by requiring detailed information about funded projects along with explanations for their basis, timelines, and potential reimbursements.
