WASHINGTON – Congressman Pete Sessions (TX-17) voted in favor of H.R. 8281, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, or SAVE Act, introduced by Congressman Chip Roy (TX-21). This legislation aims to amend the National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) to require states to obtain documentary proof of U.S. citizenship in person when an individual registers to vote in federal elections. The SAVE Act also mandates states to create programs for removing non-citizens from existing voter rolls.
Despite opposition from 198 Democrats, the SAVE Act passed the House on July 10. Congressman Sessions is a proud cosponsor of the SAVE Act and urges the Senate to quickly consider this piece of legislation.
“Current election security standards are not sufficient, considering the Biden administration’s failure to secure our southern border. Nearly 5 million illegal aliens have been released into our country and, in many states, can easily bypass the weak enforcement mechanisms put in place to bar noncitizens from voting in our federal elections. The SAVE Act will ensure that only Americans can participate in American elections, increasing public trust and confidence,” said Congressman Sessions.
