BELTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT: Trustees Lay Out Timeline to Fill Vacant Board Position

Announce

Belton Independent School District issued the following announcement.

The Belton ISD Board of Trustees accepted the resignation of a trustee Monday night and solidified plans for appointing a new member by the January board meeting.

Rosie Montgomery, who was elected to the Board in May 2019 to represent Area 2, resigned for personal reasons. Her term would have expired in May 2021.

"Serving on the Belton ISD Board of Trustees has been one of my greatest honors,” Montgomery said. “The Belton community has been blessed with an incredible school district, and the current leadership will lead the district to greater heights. I want to extend a sincere thank you to the current board and the administration. Working with this team has made me a better person."

Montgomery previously represented Area 2 on the Board from 2010-2015.

“We appreciate Rosie’s service very much,” said Suzanne M. McDonald, Board president. “Her insightful questions and contributions to discussion have pushed the Board to make better decisions. She will be greatly missed on the Board, but I’m glad to know she will still be part of the Big Red Community.”

With so much important work happening in the district, McDonald said the Board intends to move quickly to fill the vacant position.

Community members interested in serving as an appointed member of the Board of Trustees for Area 2 must be at least 18 years old, reside in Area 2 and be registered to vote. The appointee will serve until the next scheduled election on May 1, 2021.

To be considered, eligible candidates must submit a letter of interest addressed to McDonald. The letter can be submitted in the following ways:

  • Emailed to Suzanne.McDonald@bisd.net
  • Mailed to Belton ISD, PO Box 269, Belton, TX 76513
  • Faxed to (254) 215-2001
  • Brought to the Administration Building at 400 N. Wall, Belton, TX. (The Administration Building will be closed for Winter Break beginning Dec. 21 and reopen on Jan. 4.)
The letter of interest must be received by 5 p.m. on Jan. 4.

Trustees will review letters and schedule candidate interviews for Jan. 11 and Jan. 19 with the intention of having a new member sworn in at the Jan. 25 regular meeting.
