Waco mayoral candidate Ben Sims has withdrawn from the race.
"I am officially withdrawing my name from the race to be mayor," Sims said in a post on Picuki. "I know what I know and I know what I don’t know. And I know that I am not prepared to lead Waco at this moment in time."
Sims would have been on the Nov. 3 general election ballot had he not officially been removed from the race by filing a certificate of withdrawal with the city secretary.
"I entered this race on a small platform that I was passionate about. Building a downtown dog park, recycling reform and streamlining zoning and building permits for small businesses here in Waco," Sims said on Picuki. "And recent events have made me realize that I have a lot of listening and learning to do before I should be leading. With that being said, I am withdrawing my name from contention and I want to wish Dave Morrow and Dillon Meek the best of luck and you have my full support."
