The Baylor women’s golf team finished in second place behind Texas A&M at The “Mo” Morial tournament at Traditions Club, according to an April 8 report. The Bears shot an 8-over 296 in the final round, overcoming a slow start that saw them go seven over par through the first four holes.

This result marks Baylor’s tenth top-five finish in eleven tournaments this season. Bridget Boczar, a transfer from Oakland, tied for second place with an even-par 72 and a total score of three over par for her best-ever finish since joining Baylor. Charlotte Brook and Malena Castro also placed in the top ten, finishing seventh and tied for eighth respectively.

Head coach Jay Goble said, “Couldn’t be more proud of Bridget for having her best finish at Baylor, finishing tied for second. Same thing for Charlotte, who has not really been in the lineup all year. She really showed us a lot this week and showed us that she’s a gamer. And, of course, Malena finds a way to sneak into the top 10 as well.” Goble also said he was pleased with how the team responded after their initial struggles: “We didn’t have a great start to the tournament and, obviously, it was tough conditions and tough wind… I’m proud of them. This is a tough place, and I think this will prepare us for hard tournaments to come after this.”

Other notable performances included Illinois transfer Yurang Li tying for thirty-fourth place with fifteen over par after shooting four over on Wednesday. Silje Ohma finished tied for thirty-ninth after recording seventeen over par.

Looking ahead to the Big 12 Championships scheduled from April 23-25 at Dallas Athletic Club, Goble said: “It feels a lot like Ridgewood… So I like it for us. And I think the Big 12 Championships are wide open because there’s a bunch of us in that fifteen to twenty-five range that could all do it.” The Big 12 currently features five teams ranked within the national top twenty-five.
